Whether you’re a pro, want to run drones as a hobby, or something in between, DJI has a drone for everyone. The two most popular drones today are the DJI FPV Combo and the DJI Air 2S. What are the similarities and differences between these two drones and most importantly which one should you purchase?
The Design and Build
The weight of the DJI Air 2S is 595 grams, while the DJI FPV Combo is approximately 795g.
The DJI FPV drone measures about 178 × 232 × 127 mm when folded and 235 × 312 × 127 mm when unfolded. The DJI Air 2S measures 180 × 97 × 77 mm when folded and 183 × 253 × 77 mm when unfolded, making it much smaller in size.
With that in mind, the Air 2S still fits neatly in a small carry case and is smaller than the Mavic 2 and slightly smaller than the Mavic Air 2. However, if you want to buy the lightest drone, you can buy it if you want. too much If you compromise on quality, Air 2s wins.
Of course, the DJI FPV Combo camera is much smaller than the DJI Air 2S camera. The DJI Air 2S possesses a 1-inch CMOS camera sensor that permits you to capture high-quality images that have a lot of data. This means images are clearer, sharper, and have a lot of information in highlights and shadows, which is great if you enjoy spending time editing your shots in Lightroom or Premiere Pro.
The DJI FPV Combo has the popular 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor which is also used in the Mavic Air 2.
The Air 2S can take 20 MP photos while the Mini 2 takes 12 MP photos.
Additionally, the DJI Air 2S shoots video at 5.4k at 30fps, 4k at 60fps, and FHD at 120fps. DJI FPV Combo’s maximum video resolution is 4k 60fps. However, it’s still impressive considering the drone’s size and will fit a lot of drone pilots.
The flight time of the DJI Air 2S is 31 minutes and DJI FPV Combo is 31 minutes.
One thing I want to cover in this article is how well the DJI FPV Combo handles the Air 2S. Due to its higher weight of course it has more wind resistance, but I think it’s still impressive and very fun to fly because you have to react quickly.
The maximum speed in Sport 2 mode is 27 m/s, although it is significantly slower in normal mode (15 m/s). The DJI Air 2S is slower at 19 m/s in sport mode and 15 m/s in normal mode.
The DJI Air 2S features the new Occusync 3.0 technology and 4 antennas that offer a range of 12 km. With the DJI FPV Combo, you get a range of 10km which is less but it’s the same as what DJI did with the Mavic Air 2 so it’s still impressive.
In terms of altitude, the DJI FPV Combo is capable of reaching 6,000 meters above you and the DJI Air 2S affords more than 5,000 meters to meet your needs. However, I find that when flying a drone, you rarely have to climb more than 1,000 meters to catch everything you need. Also, due to FAA regulations, you can’t always fly that high in certain airspaces.
The DJI FPV Combo is among the best and most feature-rich consumer drones in the drone space, while the new Air 2S limits the line between consumer devices and tools for professionals.
